Biography:
Dr Gareth Bloomfield is Chief Technology Lead for the Oxford Cancer AI Scientist and Supercompute Project where he is responsible for incorporating Artificial Intelligence into laboratory work. Making use of advanced large language models to connect with lab equipment, including collaborative robots, our team building systems to automate complex experiments to advance and accelerate cancer research.
Gareth undertook doctoral research at Oxford’s Biochemistry department before training in genomics as a postdoc at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where he designed and constructed DNA microarrays. Later, he investigated cell biology at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, using next-generation sequencing in a forward genetics approach to identify a role for neurofibromin in large-scale endocytosis. He has since held several roles in the private sector at start-up companies and clinics.
