Biography:
Jessie Elliott is an Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon and Academic Lead at the National Centre for Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer, Trinity St. James’s Cancer Institute in Dublin, focused on treating patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer. She has a special interest in cancer survivorship and clinical trials. She studied at Trinity College Dublin and completed a PhD in translational medicine at University College Dublin, investigating novel strategies to enhance nutrition in cancer survivorship, before completing surgical training in Ireland. She undertook international fellowships in robotic upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery at the University Medical Centre, Utrecht, the Netherlands, and in gastric cancer surgery at Seoul National University Hospital, South Korea. She has led the development of a clinical and translational research programme in oesophageal and gastric cancer survivorship at the Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute. Current projects include the international multicentre SARONG-II RCT in upper gastrointestinal cancer surveillance and the IMPROVE study investigating the application of liquid biopsy in oesophagogastric cancer. She is an ICAT programme supervisor, and has received a number of awards for her work including the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and American College of Surgeons International Scholarship, European Society for Diseases of the Esophagus Fellowship, a Health Research Board Research Fellowship, the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland Medal, an Irish Cancer Society Clinician Research Development Fellowship and Clinician Research Leadership Award, and an American Society of Clinical Oncology Conquer Cancer Award. She holds a number of leadership positions including Vice Chair of the UK and Ireland Oesophagogastric Cancer Research Group and Editor of Diseases of the Esophagus journal. She is passionate about promoting clinical-academic collaborations to deliver world-class transformative research in Surgery and Cancer to generate innovative solutions to complex clinical problems.
