Biography:
Dr Séan O’Cathail is a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Cork University Hospital and a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow. He previously held an academic post at the Beatson Cancer Centre, Glasgow, where he co-led the clinical radiation research work package at the CRUK RadNet Centre of Excellence.
He graduated with honours from University College Cork in 2008 and completed his core medical training in Ireland before moving to the UK for specialist oncology training. He earned an MSc in Oncology from the Institute of Cancer Research, London, and a PhD from the University of Oxford for his research on radioresistance in rectal cancer. He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Radiologists and the Royal College of Physicians of London.
His research focuses on anorectal cancers, radiosensitisation strategies and stereotactic body radiotherapy, particularly in oligometastatic disease and pelvic re-irradiation. He has led multiple early and late-phase clinical trials and published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.
He is actively involved in national and international oncology networks and has presented at major oncology conferences. He also contributes to editorial and peer-review activities for leading oncology journals.
