Biography:
After completing medical training in Cambridge, Andrew Godkin first started research in the Nuffield Department of Medicine in Oxford with Professors Derek Jewell and Adrian Hill into the immunogenetics of coeliac disease. His continuing research activity since has centred on CD4+ T cell / HLA-II biology focusing on bespoke antigen modification to enhance T cell activation, focusing on both infections such as influenza A virus and cancers. He moved to Cardiff in 2002 and has a position as an honorary consultant physician in the University Hospital of Wales and holds a chair in experimental immunology in Cardiff University. On arriving in Cardiff he joined forces with Professor Awen Gallimore thereby expanding the labs’ ability to translate pre-clinical models through to clinical research. He is currently running an immune adjuvant trial in 500 patients with colorectal cancer funded by Cancer Research Wales.

The combined Gallimore – Godkin lab (https://www.cancerimmunology.co.uk/) currently receives funding from Cancer Research UK, Cancer Research Wales, Breast Cancer Now and Worldwide Cancer Research. They were recently awarded a new discovery science programme grant from CRUK focusing on vaccine development in colorectal cancer with support from the Bowelbabe Fund.
